AND I'M GONNA ASK IF EVERYONE WAS STAND AS WE RECITE PLEDGE ALLEGIANCE TO OUR PLAN.. I ASK EVERYONE TO REMAIN STANDING, AND MR. CHESSON WILL GO DOWN TO THE PODIUM AND OFFER AN INVOCATION FOR US TO PRAY WITH ME PLEASE BOW YOUR HEADS.

DEAR FATHER LORD, WE JUST THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE STRENGTH AND ENERGY YOU'VE GIVEN US TO BE ABLE TO BE HERE TONIGHT.

AND, LORD, WE THANK YOU FOR THIS COUNTY.

THE LEADERS THAT YOU PUT IN PLACE.

AND I WOULD LIKE, SIR, TO READ THE RESOLUTION THAT'S PRESENTED.

SO I THINK ABOUT ME SITTING NEXT TO YOU AND MR. PARKER WHEN I FIRST COME IN AS A ROOKIE, AND I CHERISH YOUR ENCOURAGEMENT TO TAKE THE PLANNING CLASS.

AND I THINK THEY GOT ME IN THE NEXT GO ROUND.

AND THAT WAS VERY INSTRUMENTAL.

AND I THINK I MUST HAVE BEEN A LITTLE BIT GREEN.

BUT ANYWAY, IT'S BEEN A LONG ROAD AND I TREASURE ALL THE ENCOURAGEMENT YOU GAVE ME ALONG THE WAY.

SO THE RESOLUTION AS PRESENTED IT GOES ON TO SAY WHERE AS KEITH L.

TENNESSEE, SIR, HAS SERVED AS A VALUABLE MEMBER OF THE SOUTHAMPTON COUNTY PLANNING COMMISSION FROM OCTOBER 14, 1999 UNTIL MARCH THE 18TH, 2022.

AND. WHEREAS, KEITH L.

TENNESSEE SIR HAS UNSELFISHLY GIVEN OF HIS TIME AND TALENTS TO EFFECTIVELY PROMOTE THE HEALTH, SAFETY, PROSPERITY AND ORDERLY DEVELOPMENT OF SOUTHAMPTON COUNTY, INCLUDING CONSERVATION OF ITS NATURAL AND HISTORIC RESOURCES, THROUGH DEVELOPMENT OF THE NUMEROUS COMPREHENSIVE PLANS AND THROUGH THE DEVELOPMENT OF AND SUBSEQUENT REVISIONS TO THE SITE OF THE COUNTY ZONING AND SUBDIVISION DIVISION ORDINANCES AND OR AS HIS BROAD KNOWLEDGE OF SOUTHAMPTON COUNTY AND THE CONCERN FOR ITS CITIZENS CONTRIBUTED IMMENSELY TO THE PLANNING COMMISSION'S EFFORTS IN EFFECTIVELY BALANCING GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SOUTHAMPTON COUNTY PLANNING COMMISSION THAT KEITH L .

TENNESSEE SIR IS RECOGNIZED AND COMMENDED FOR 22 YEARS AND FIVE MONTHS OF DEVOTED SERVICE TO THE PEOPLE OF SOUTHAMPTON COUNTY.

AS AN ESTEEMED MEMBER OF THE PLANNING COMMISSION, AND FURTHER RESOLVED THAT A COPY OF THIS RESOLUTION BE SPREAD UPON THE MINUTES OF THIS COMMISSION ON THE NINTH DAY OF JUNE 2022, SERVING TO RECORD AND FOREVER PRESERVE ITS GRATITUDE AND APPRECIATION, AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT A FRAMED COPY OF THIS RESOLUTION BE PRESENTED TO KEITH L.

THIS RESOLUTION WAS UNANIMOUSLY ADOPTED ON JUNE 9TH, 2022.

IT WAS JUST THAT I HAD JUST COMPLETED IT MYSELF, SO I KNEW THE BENEFIT THAT I HAD RECEIVED.

WE LATER MADE IT PART OF THE RECOMMENDATION, PART OF THE REQUIREMENTS TO BE IN THE PLANNING COMMISSION.

I JUST WANTED TO SAY THAT OF THE 22 YEARS THAT I HAVE SERVED, I'VE ENJOYED EVERY MOMENT OF IT.

I FEEL LIKE WE'VE DONE A LOT OF GOOD WORK.

THERE WERE SOME TIMES WHEN WE DIDN'T ALWAYS AGREE, BUT IT'S NOT THAT OBVIOUS.

WHAT I ALWAYS SAY, IF EVERYBODY AGREES TO FOLLOW ME, NOBODY'S THINKING.

AND SO I HAD THE PRIVILEGE OF SERVING WITH A LOT OF PEOPLE THAT NOT JUST BY APPOINTMENT DIDN'T COME BY, BUT.

MR. BURN, SEVERAL OTHER OLDER GENTLEMEN THAT WERE ON THE PLANNING COMMISSION WHEN I CAME IN FOR THE LONGEST TIME, JACK, I WAS THE YOUNGEST GUY. AND THEN THAT CHANGED.

BUT I FELT LIKE WE'D DONE A LOT OF GOOD WORK.

TO MY KNOWLEDGE, I DON'T THINK WE'LL HAVE 2 RECOMMENDATIONS THAT THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS DIDN'T AGREE WITH THAT.

SOME THINGS I THINK WE COULD HAVE DONE BETTER, BUT I THINK WE'VE DONE THE BEST WE COULD AT THE TIME FOR WHAT WE HAD TO WORK WITH.

IT WAS A PLEASURE TO SERVE WITH EACH OF YOU.

VERY THANKFUL FOR THE STAFF.

MS. LEWIS WAS ALWAYS THERE TO ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS THAT WE HAD OR I HAD, YOU KNOW, TO BE ABLE TO COMMUNICATE WELL THE MEETINGS THAT ARE GOING TO HAPPEN OR NOT, SO FORTH.

WE AGREED MORE TIMES THAN NOT, DEFINITELY.

BUT I REALLY ENJOYED THE DEBATE WITH YOU BECAUSE SOMETIMES WE COULD WE COULD DISAGREE.

AS OF SOLAR PANELS, MR. DRAKE HAS TAUGHT ME A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF ABOUT SOLAR PANELS.

AND I THINK THAT HAVING THE DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVES LIKE YOU'VE ALWAYS BROUGHT ME IN MANY OCCASIONS, IT'S MADE ME THINK AND DO MORE CRITICAL THINKING.

AND I THANK YOU FOR THAT.

WELL, YOU KNOW, I WAS WHEN I FIRST CAME ON THE PLANNING COMMISSION IN 99, THAT WAS DURING THE CELL TOWER ERA.

AND JUST LIKE SOLAR PANELS, WHAT WE'RE GOING THROUGH NOW AND CREATING ORDINANCES AND SO FORTH FOR SOLAR PANELS, WE DID THE SAME THING FOR CELL TOWERS, YOU KNOW, EVEN GOING OUT AND HIRING A CONSULTANT, YOU KNOW, AND GOING OVER THE ORDINANCES BECAUSE WE DIDN'T HAVE ALL THE ANSWERS FOR THEM EITHER.

AND, YOU KNOW, AND, YOU KNOW, 20 YEARS LATER, WE ALL RELY ON THEM EVERY DAY.

YOU CAN'T LEAVE HOME WITHOUT THEM.

SO IF ANYBODY WANTS TO GO ON TO FORESTRY, WILDLIFE BIOLOGIST, GAME WARDEN, THOSE TYPES OF THINGS, THOSE ARE THE CLASSES THAT WOULD PREPARE THEM FOR THAT.

SO IF SOMEONE WANTS TO GO STRAIGHT TO PLANT SCIENCE, DOESN'T WANT TO KNOW ABOUT ANIMAL SCIENCE AND PRODUCTION AND THOSE THINGS, THEY GO STRAIGHT INTO PLANT SCIENCE THAT LEADS THEM INTO HORTICULTURE, WHICH WE HAVE A GREENHOUSE AND LANDSCAPING.

SO IF THEY WANT TO GO TO THAT TRACK, THEY'LL DO THAT BACK OVER TO THE OTHER SIDE.

SO AGRICULTURAL STRUCTURAL SYSTEMS, AGRICULTURAL POWER SYSTEMS AND AGRICULTURAL POWER SYSTEMS ADVANCED OR BRAND NEW TO US, AS MANY OF YOU WILL KNOW, WE USED TO HAVE AN ELECTRICITY PROGRAM AND A BUILDING TRADES PROGRAM.

SO IN THAT THEY'RE GOING TO GET A LITTLE BIT OF EVERYTHING, THEY'LL GET WOODWORKING, MASONRY, SMALL ENGINES, HYDRAULICS, AIR CONDITIONING, ELECTRICITY, PLUMBING, SOLDERING, YOU NAME IT.

THEY'RE GOING TO GET A LITTLE BIT OF IT.

AND IT'S NOT LIKE GOING TO A WELDER CLASS AND LEARNING WELDING.

AND SO THIS IS THE FIRST YEAR WE'VE OFFERED IT.

WE'RE TEACHING AGRICULTURAL STRUCTURAL SYSTEMS. NEXT YEAR THEY'LL BE ABLE TO TAKE THOSE TWO ADVANCED COURSES.

SO WE'RE CURRENTLY TRYING TO SECURE SOME EQUIPMENT SO WE CAN DO THAT.

NOW, THE NICE THING ABOUT THAT IS PAUL DE CAMP HAS A MAJOR AN ASSOCIATE'S PROGRAM, I SHOULD SAY, FOR MAINTENANCE, AND THEY'RE LEARNING THE SAME THINGS.

SO A KID CAN EITHER GO STRAIGHT FROM THAT INTO THAT PROGRAM OR THEY MAY SAY, I REALLY LIKE ELECTRICITY OR I REALLY LIKE WELDING.

AND THEY CAN SPECIALIZE IN THOSE THAT KIND OF EXCITED ABOUT THAT.

AND I ACTUALLY GOT A FORMER HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATE TO COME BACK AND TEACH IT.

SO WE'RE KEEPING IT IN HOUSE.

KIDS HARVEST AND KALE THAT WE PLANTED OUT BACK, JUST GETTING BACK TO THE FIELD TRIPS, POST-COVID.

THAT'S SOME THINGS THAT THE VIRGINIA TECH HORTICULTURE GARDEN'S TAKING THE KIDS UP THERE AND LET THEM SEE WHAT AN ARBORETUM LOOKS LIKE.

DIFFERENT THINGS THAT THEY CAN DO LANDSCAPING WISE.

THAT WAS ACTUALLY AT VIRGINIA STATE UNIVERSITY AND KNOWING ABOUT GROWING MANGOES INDOORS.

BUT THEY HAVE THEM UP THERE.

SO TRY TO GET THE KIDS SOME EXPOSURE TO SOME THINGS THAT WE DON'T HAVE LOCALLY.

THIS IS THIS YEAR, PLANTING SOME SHRUBS OUT BEHIND THE MIDDLE SCHOOL, GETTING SOME PLANTS IN THE GREENHOUSE, SHOWING THE KIDS HOW TO REPOT THINGS AND SET THE WATER SYSTEMS UP.

WHAT YOU SEE THERE ON THE RIGHT IS A HYDROPONIC SYSTEM FOR GROWING TOMATOES AND CUCUMBERS, AND THEY'RE GETTING READY TO START THOSE PLANTS FOR THE WINTER.

AGAIN DOING SOME REPORTING WORK.

THIS WAS ACTUALLY AN EXERCISE IN.

PLANT STRUCTURES. THEY WERE DISSECTING A FLOWER AND FINDING ALL THE PARTS ON THEIR LITTLE WORKSHEET SO THEY COULD ACTUALLY GET A HANDS ON AND GET A VISUAL.

A COUPLE MORE THINGS.

SOIL SAMPLES, TEACHING THEM HOW TO DO SOIL SAMPLES AND WHAT THEY MEAN, AND THEN HOW TO DO SOIL AMENDMENTS AFTERWARDS.

THAT'S PLANTING THE KALE THAT THE OTHER GUYS WERE HARVESTING THEIR.

PUTTING THE TABLES TOGETHER IN THE GREENHOUSE, LEARNING HOW TO SET THINGS UP.

NATURAL RESOURCES AND FORESTRY.

AGAIN, THESE GUYS BUILT A.

MOST OF US RECALL A RABBIT PLUG, BUT A RABBIT TRAP.

TAKING THEM TO COMPETITIONS.

I WAS AT THE STATE FAIR, KIND OF A LUMBERJACK COMPETITION, THE ONE ON THE RIGHT TO ACTUAL FOSTER COMPETITION WHERE THEY'RE DOING LAND MASS LAND AREA, IDENTIFYING TREES. AGAIN, SOME OF THE LUMBERJACK STUFF THEY DID.

THESE GUYS WENT UP AND COMPETED AND I'M NOT SURE WHERE THEY PLACED IT WAS TOP FIVE, AS ALL I CAN TELL YOU FOR SURE.

PART OF THAT AGRICULTURE PROGRAM FOR LEADERSHIP COMMUNITY SERVICE.
