RANDALL HAD QUESTIONS ABOUT THE TOWNS AND THEIR PARTICIPATION IN THIS SOUTHAMPTON COUNTY GETS LITTER CONTROL MONEY FROM THE COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA EVERY YEAR AND THE COUNTY AND GET SOME AND SOME GOES TO THE TOWNS, SO I EXPECT THAT THAT'S WHY THEY HAVE REPRESENTATIVES ON THE LITTER CONTROL COUNCIL.
I HAVE SPOKEN TO HER COUNSEL, WHO IS LISTED AS THE EX OFFICIO MEMBER ON THE LITTER CONTROL COUNCIL.
HE SAYS THAT THE COUNTY HAS NEOPRENE GLOVES, THAT'S TWO OR THREE SIGNS, UPWARDS OF 50 LITTER GRABBERS AND HE HAS JERSEY GLOVES ORDERED AS WELL AS MORE BAGS.
HE SAYS IF A GROUP WANTS TO PICK UP TRASH, THEY CONTACT HIM.
HE DELIVERS WHERE THEY PICK UP THE SUPPLIES, HE DOESN'T HAVE ANY PAPER RECORD KEEPING.
THEY TELL THEM WHERE THEY LEAVE THE BAGS AND EITHER HERE, VDOT PICKS HIM UP.

JOHN GRIGGS WHO RAN THE LITTER PROGRAM I BELIEVE IT WAS PRE-2019 AND THEN I TALKED TO SEVERAL OFFICIALS OUT IN CHESTERFIELD AT CURRENTLY HAVE A LITTER PROGRAM AND THEY HAD BEAUTIFICATION PROJECTS MIXED IN WITH LITTER CONTROL AND THEY HAD A THREE-POINT PROGRAM THAT THEY USE AS A MISSION STATEMENT FOR THEIR THEIR COUNSEL.

THE FIRST WOULD BE THE PLANNING COMMISSION TO HAVE ON ITS AGENDA FOR AT LEAST SIX MONTHS AND JUST UNDERSTAND, I'M PUTTING IN SOUTHAMPTON COUNTY AS SOMETHING FOR A GUIDE THAT WE CAN START WITH AND WE CAN MODIFY AND CHANGE IS THIS BOARD WILL SEE APPROPRIATE.
SO PLANNING COMMISSION TO HAVE ON AGENDA FOR AT LEAST SIX MONTHS SIMILAR TO THE SOLAR PANEL ORDER AND STILL LITTER COUNSEL AND HAVE AT LEAST ONE JOINT MEETING TO REPORT PROGRESS TO THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS.
PLANNING COMMISSION TO WORK WITH PUBLIC AND PRIVATE ORGANIZATIONS TO PROBLEM SOLVE AND THINK OF PRACTICAL, NOT THEORETICAL SOLUTIONS TO THE SIGNIFICANT LITTER PROBLEMS IN SOUTHAMPTON COUNTY.
AS PUBLIC SERVANTS, WE SHOULD VOLUNTEER TO PICK UP TRASH AND ORGANIZE SOME LITTER CLEANUP EVENTS.
AS A START, THIS ORGANIZATION WOULD LIKE TO HAVE FOUR PUBLIC EVENTS PER YEAR FOR PICKUP OF LITTER IN SOUTHAMPTON COUNTY AND YOU CAN SEE HOW I'M PICKING ON THEIR MISSION STATEMENT AND I'M JUST UNCERTAIN SOUTH AND BE COUNTED BECAUSE WE GOT TO START SOMEWHERE.
THE NEXT ACTION POINT IS THE LITTER CONTROL COUNSEL TO WORK WITH VDOT TO START BEAUTIFICATION PROJECT, START WITH TWO ROUNDABOUTS AND CORTLAND AND MY UNDERSTANDING IS THAT THE COUNCIL WAS WORKING WITH VDOT ON A BEAUTIFICATION PROJECT ON THE ROUNDABOUTS BEFORE COVID, IS THAT CORRECT?

ONE THING THAT IN TALKING TO SEVERAL OF THE MEMBERS AND I'VE TALKED TO SEVERAL SUPERVISORS AND SEVERAL PEOPLE ON THE COMMISSION, IS EVERYONE SEEMED TO AGREE THAT THIS COUNCIL THERE'S AN ARTICLE IN THE PAPER, I GUESS BECAUSE I GOT SEVERAL CALLS TODAY OF PEOPLE THAT ARE INTERESTED IN HAVING EVENTS, DOING SPECIFIC THINGS AS IT RELATES TO LITTER PICKUP.
I THINK IF IT'S VERY IMPERATIVE THAT THE RIGHT FOLKS THAT ARE GOING TO PARTICIPATE ARE PLACED ON THIS SPECIFIC COUNCIL.

I THINK THE LEAST AMOUNT IS PEOPLE JUST THROWING IT OUT THE WINDOW NOW.
